Hello, Writeclubbers-

Shakespeare, in his infinite wisdom, once mentioned (somewhat ironically) that “Brevity is the soul of wit,” and we couldn’t agree more. And after reading Julie O’Hora’s recent contribution to the site, we had an idea for a tidy little prompt, and hope you play along.

That’s why we’re introducing the 100 WORDS PROMPT: Write us a story. It can be fiction, or non-fiction. The only restriction is that it is EXACTLY 100 WORDS LONG. Not 99 words. Not 101. We have the tools to check. We will be judicious about hyphenated words. Title not included in word count.

Submissions will be published via writeclubatlanta.com, and we will even select a few to add to our upcoming 100 Words Podcast.

Please send your submissions to writeclubatlanta@gmail.com, with your name, title, and story in the body of the e-mail.

Now go, and be brief.

  1. This isn’t brief. This is telepathy

  2. Once, my brother gave me a turtle. Then he gave me another turtle. I kept them in a cardboard box. Mother said, “Why don’t you race them?” I took them out and said, “Race to that tree!” I figured the big one would run faster than the little one, but they wouldn’t stick their heads out. I asked Mother how to make them stick their heads out, but she said to clean up for lunch. I went outside. The turtles looked ready to run, but then Mother called me for lunch. When I came back outside, the turtles were gone.

  3. First Days of School
    By: Catfish Junior

There’s a young boy named Gavin. Who on his first day of school, proclaimed to be dragon. He showed his claws and hissed through his teeth, as his teacher asked “please take your seat”. His first day of school he was finally there, hopefully no one noticed that he was quite scarred.
At home was a mother, perfect was she. Waiting for her dragon, anxiously until three; Facebook, Twitter, all claimed she was tough. Truthfully, for both first days are quite rough. Three O’clock came, and so the boy, into mommies arms with hugs of joy.
    Tomorrow will be easier.
